The Rule of 3: Keep it Simple in Your Business
Oct 22, 2020As human beings we are naturally "creative".
As entrepreneurs we are "hyper-creative".
With so much information, knowledge and research out there, I thought it would be fun to share 5 things you can absolutely keep simple when building your business online.
This is geared mostly for online coaches, however can apply to many different industries and avenues. These are things that I have found, via years of experience, research, and knowledge from picking many minds of those who have been successful online. Let’s dive in to the most common questions I get:
How Many Social Media Platforms Should I Be Showing Up on?
Many people get overwhelmed at the sheer thought of getting started on social media. I mean I don't blame them, there are SOOO many different social media platforms these days. After much research, I have found that it is best to narrow down to about 3 platforms that you are showing up on.... now this means posting/sharing content on. I would even go deeper to say that you should be really DEVOTING your time and SHOWING UP fully on 1 platform (meaning you know the ins and out and exactly what to do, to really optimize and grow on the platform).
For Example, one of our services is to help clients create and brainstorm their own content. From there, our team creates branded graphics and uses your content to post across 4 different platforms of your choice. This helps you to get that base content out there (that is your voice, vision, and mission... but you should additionally be doing activities to grow/expand and drive engagement on the 1 platform of your choice). This ONE platform is where most of your clients hang out, this is where you will be speaking directly to them most often, doing live videos and more. Basically fully maximizing the platform so you will be top of mind when your future clients are ready to hire you.
How Many Opt-ins Should I have?
Opt-ins, also known as lead magnets or freebies are important to have. This is still a great way to build your email list. The way it works is your future client, sees your awesome opt-in. Signs up to receive it (giving you their email) and then downloads your cool freebie. The rule of thumb here is to have at least 3 "sexy" opt-ins. 3 Opt-ins that give so much value and are a no-brainer to take your future clients one step closer to working with you. When you have 3 you can test to see what is working and try them out, based on different programs/services you offer.
How many Avatars should I Have?
Avatars, aka target audience, who you are marketing your program/service to. I have found it is a good idea to pick 3. Avatar number 1 is if you had 100 people lined up at the door, you can't wait to work with- That is your NUMBER 1 Avatar. Your ideal client.
Avatar number 2, is the person who is okay to work with, but not your 100% ideal. Avatar number 3, is the client you want to AVOID, this is the client that is overly judgemental, energy sucking (energy vampire), blames others for their problems, not kind, time sucking, not coachable, unrealistic, exhausting... you get the picture. It's important to get a clear picture of all 3 of these avatars, so you are clear who you are and ARE NOT talking to and how to identify them to ensure they are a good fit.
How Many Services Should I have?
Digital Marketer teaches in the Customer Value Journey, that all Entrepreneurs should have 3 different offerings. The first is a low level entry offer (could be super cheap at $7 up to $49), the next is a mid tier offer which could be an online course offering ($149-$497) something like that, the next is a high level offer, your most expensive which is usually something like a 1:1 coaching or a mastermind program/workshop, etc ($597-$5000+). So the answer again is 3, an entry, mid, high. :-) You want to take your peeps on a journey, let them see how super awesome you are, then you can upsell them into more amazingness with you, now that they see what you are capable of!
How Many Content Vehicles are There?
What I mean by content vehicle, is a place where you are doing at least one piece of long form content each week for your audience, that you can use to create multiple forms of content from.
The answer is 3.... are you seeing a trend now? Video, Audio, Written. A video could be a fb live/video recording/youtube video. Audio could be a podcast. Written, could be a blog post or written article. I recommend you pick at least 1 content vehicle and commit to doing at least one per week.
In our Time to Grow Program, we help our clients plan out content topics and ideas in advance and help them to write blog posts each week, that we can use to create awesome branded content AND that they can use to create podcast episodes, and video content. It's awesome and super "fun" according to our clients.
