Motivation is Garbage
Nov 09, 2020“You will never always be motivated, so you must learn to be disciplined”
If you always wait until you “feel like it”, it will never happen, especially in entrepreneurship. You realize you need to create some structure in your life... otherwise... it can get messy and you can feel unmotivated pretty quickly.
The key to success and taking action, is to be disciplined in your daily actions. I know it’s not easy at first, but I promise you it is the best thing you can do for your business and yourself.
I also want to add this quote for a little extra inspiration: “Every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them.”
Here is my routine and why it works for me:
6:30am: Wake up, brush my teeth, take the dogs out.
7:00am: Work out for about 45 minutes (you might be surprised to hear I do not do cardio.. Only on occasion), I use weights and alternate the days what I work out, Monday: Arms, Tuesday: Chest, Wednesday: Back, Thursday: Abs/etc, Friday: Leg Day
8:00am: Breakfast, a nice calm full breakfast. I usually make a pizzazzle omelet (lol, I chop up onions, peppers, tomatoes, banana peppers, spinach, really any veggie we have in the fridge) with egg whites. And I’ll have one slice of gluten free rye bread or a bowl of oatmeal. So I get my protein and my carbs.
I take my vitamins and my husband and I have our coffee (little bit of sugar/honey/coconut milk).
9:00am/9:30am: We usually check out what is going on the news, we simply ask Alexa (our Amazon Dot) “Hey Alexa, what’s going on in the news”, than when we are good I ask “Hey Alexa, what is going on in entertainment news?”.
9:30am: I jump in the shower, I usually listen to a podcast or I put on some music to start the day.
10:30am: I then check emails and get my day started.
11:00am: I usually start my daily calls.
*non-negotiables are Monday CEO days, this the day protected for team and getting things done for the business. No working past 5:30pm, unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.
Having this structure helps me stay consistent.
Does it always ensure that I am focused and productive…. H*ll no! I still struggle some days, but it does help me to stay on track with things that matter most physically and mentally.
Plus I have found it has seriously decreased any anxiety about the upcoming work week going from a weekend into the week. Monday is my CEO day, so I know I don't have anything too intense planned. It's such a nice way to enter the new week and ramp up mentally.
When you find yourself drifting during the day and becoming unproductive or unmotivated. Think about the 1 thing you need to get done and set a timer and give yourself 20 minutes to GET IT DONE. Keep setting a timer for 20 minutes until you knock it out!
Again, I know it's not easy, but this might be helpful if you are struggling to put some structure to your day.
