How Many Social Media Platforms Should You Use?

It’s time for me to address another hot-button topic in the entrepreneur world: What is the right number for how many social media accounts will help you get the most clients?

My husband, Scott Aaron, and I get questioned about our approach to social media all the time, and this is asked THE most: is it better to spread your efforts across all platforms or concentrate on just one?

SPOILER ALERT: I believe leading with ONE specific social media platform is crucial.

Why?

Scott and I have strong presences on various social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and more.

But here’s the headline: it's essential to pick your single most important platform and really make it your own. Doing so lets you take full advantage of everything it offers without spreading your marketing efforts too thinly.

Focusing on one platform doesn't mean you can't be present on others. The goal is to build a strong foundation on your primary platform, and once you've mastered it, then you can easily expand to the others.

For example, LinkedIn takes the lead for Scott when it comes to our primary focus, while I tend to focus a bit more on Instagram.

On LinkedIn, you can connect with specific leads, power partners, and business allies. This platform allows you to replace the traditional concept of cold calling with a more effective lead-generation approach.

You can create newsletters that are SEO-friendly, meaning they can appear in Google searches. You can also engage in market research with polls, which are informative and great conversation starters. LinkedIn is an excellent place to establish yourself as an industry expert by showcasing your skills and abilities.

As for Instagram, it isn't just about posting pretty pictures; it's about engaging with your audience, building trust, and showcasing your behind-the-scenes work through stories. Reels are gaining popularity, and they offer an opportunity to increase your reach and visibility. Messaging is a super important aspect of engagement here as well.

Why Engagement is Key

The reality of social media reach can be quite challenging. For instance, on Facebook, only about 5% of your audience may see your posts, and the percentage that engages with them is even smaller. It's about making your content visible to many potential clients.

Note: that doesn’t mean anyone in the world is possible. It means your ideal prospective clients only. So, growing your followers and connections while taking time to nurture relationships is crucial to increasing your success.

The Winning Strategy

Focusing on one main social media platform is a great, strategic approach. Master that platform, learn its nuances and build a strong presence. Once you have a well-oiled system, then go ahead and expand onto other platforms. This way, you can effectively market with even more of your ideal clients, wherever they may be.

This is another case where it's all about the journey, not the destination. Keep your expectations realistic, observe what works, and adjust your strategy accordingly. Plus, it’s not like you’re not on your own. I’m here to help!
