The Truth About Closing More Sales

Article by: Nancy Evans

We've all seen those flashy marketing claims scrolling through our feeds. You know the ones that make your eyebrows shoot up while simultaneously making your wallet tingle with possibility:

"I have sold over $1 million without a sales page, website, or sales call."

Sounds dreamy, right? Who wouldn't want to skip building a website, crafting sales pages, or having those sometimes awkward sales conversations while still raking in seven figures?

But here's the thing... when something glitters this brightly in your feed, it's worth taking a closer look at what's really going on behind those shiny claims.

Breaking Down the Claim: What's Actually Happening Here?

Let's unpack this magical million-dollar claim and see if it holds water:

Breaking Down the Claim: Is It Realistic?

At first, it might seem like an incredible feat. After all, $1 million in sales is a lot of money to generate without using the usual business tools, right?

But is it even possible to make that kind of money without the basics of a website or sales page? Let’s explore the elements of this claim and see how realistic it is.

The "No Website or Sales Page" Reality

A website serves as your business home base… it builds credibility, showcases your expertise, and guides potential clients through your offers. Can someone generate significant revenue without one? Possibly, but highly unlikely at scale.

Sure, some entrepreneurs leverage social platforms or direct messaging for sales, but these rarely stand alone. Most successful businesses use multiple touchpoints to nurture prospects, and a central hub remains crucial for sustainable growth. Trying to scale up to $1 million in sales with no dedicated platform (like a website) to direct traffic and capture leads? … again, that’s highly unlikely.

In some cases, influencers or those with massive followings might generate sales through direct messages or Instagram links, but these strategies are typically used in combination with other methods. It’s a stretch to believe that someone can sell $1 million worth of products without having a central hub like a website or sales page.

The "No Sales Calls" Reality

For service-based professionals and higher-ticket offers ($1,000+), meaningful conversations are typically part of the sales process. Clients want reassurance before making significant investments.

While automated webinars and email sequences can supplement personal interaction, they don't eliminate the need for connection completely. They simply shift how that connection happens... and still require careful strategy and execution.

Sales calls are a key part of many businesses, especially those with higher-ticket products or services. Even Chris Do, CEO of The Futr talked about getting on calls when connecting with future members of his mastermind.

Sure, there are alternatives, like automated email funnels or webinars… that can take the place of some sales calls, but they still require careful planning and follow-up. These alternatives may be part of an overall strategy that funnels people to automated systems that handle sales, but calling them “no sales calls” doesn’t paint the whole picture. The absence of sales calls doesn’t mean the absence of effort. It simply means the effort is being funneled through another automated process.

So, while it's technically possible to generate sales through automated systems, the idea that someone achieved $1 million in sales without any personalized engagement, like sales calls or any form of direct communication, is a bit far-fetched. There’s likely more to the story here than meets the eye.

What's Actually Being Sold?

Context matters enormously here. Selling 100,000 $10 ebooks is vastly different from selling 10 $100,000 consulting packages. Low-ticket offers might fly off virtual shelves with less infrastructure, but high-ticket services almost always require relationship building and trust development. If something low ticket has gone viral or taps into a massive market demand, those sales could snowball quickly, even without a website.

However, if the product is higher-ticket, say $1,000 or more, it’s harder to imagine how someone could generate $1 million in sales without at least one of the traditional tools, whether that’s a website, a sales page, or a sales call.

Why These Claims Are Problematic for Coaches and Consultants

These types of marketing claims aren't just misleading… they can actually harm aspiring entrepreneurs.

Here's why:

They create false expectations about business building. Success rarely happens overnight, and certainly not without strategic foundations.

They lack transparency about what's really happening behind the scenes. There's always more to the story than what fits in an attention-grabbing headline.

They oversimplify complex business processes. Building a sustainable service business involves multiple systems working together, not magic bullets or secret shortcuts.
