The Top 3 Questions We Get Asked About Using LinkedIn to Grow a Service Business
Jun 17, 2025
After years of working with coaches, consultants, and service professionals, we've noticed something interesting: the same three questions keep coming up in discovery calls, workshops, and DMs.
These aren't random questions, either. They're the ones that signal someone is ready to stop spinning their wheels and start building real momentum on LinkedIn.
So we decided to tackle all three in one place, with the kind of practical advice that actually works (not the fluff you see everywhere else).
Question #1: "How do we get clients on LinkedIn without sounding salesy?"
We totally get this concern. Nobody wants to be that person who slides into DMs with a pitch slap or adds a sales message to every connection request.
Here's the thing: the best way to not sound salesy is to actually not be salesy.
Instead of pitching, focus on being genuinely helpful. Share insights that make your ideal client think "wow, this person really gets it." Tell stories about wins you've had with clients (without breaking confidentiality, obviously). Give people a peek behind the curtain of how you work and think.
When you show your expertise in action rather than just talking about it, something magical happens. People start to see you as the go-to person in your field. They follow your content because it's actually useful. And when they need help with what you do? You're already top of mind.
We've had clients close multiple five-figure deals just by changing how they message people on LinkedIn. Instead of leading with their services, they lead with genuine curiosity about the other person's business and challenges.
The bottom line: Get better at talking to people, not selling to them. The sales will follow naturally.
Question #2: "How often do we need to post to stay visible on LinkedIn?"
Here's a stat that might surprise you: only 1% of LinkedIn's population produces one piece of content or more per week. That means 99% of people are just consuming content, not creating it.
The more often you post, the more exclusive that club becomes. Post twice a week? You're in an even smaller group. Three times a week? You're practically in rare company.
Our recommendation: Post at least three times per week to maintain real visibility.
Why three? LinkedIn's algorithm is much slower than other platforms. A single post can get engagement for up to a week (that's why LinkedIn polls can run for seven days and people will actually engage throughout that entire period).
Here's a simple framework we call the "bookend methodology":
-
Monday: Start with a text-only post. Use storytelling and share insights that build trust with your audience.
-
Wednesday: Post a market research poll. Ask questions that help you understand your network's challenges better.
-
Friday: End with either another text post (maybe with an image) or a LinkedIn article if you want to dive deeper into a topic.
This gives you consistent touchpoints with your audience without overwhelming them or burning yourself out trying to post daily.
Question #3: "What's the fastest way to grow our audience on LinkedIn?"
Let's get this out of the way first: if someone is promising you thousands of leads in days using bots or scrapers, run. Those tactics will get your account flagged or shut down faster than you can say "connection request."
The real fastest way to grow your audience? Be intentional.
Start by getting crystal clear on who you actually want to connect with. Are you targeting health insurance brokers? Marketing directors at tech companies? Whatever your niche, focus there.
Then create a routine for consistent, strategic growth:
-
Connect with 14-18 people per day (LinkedIn's weekly limit is about 100 connections)
-
Focus on two types of people: ideal clients and potential referral partners
-
When you do connect, send personalized messages that show you've actually looked at their profile
But here's the secret sauce: engagement comes before growth.
When someone comments on your posts, don't just hit "like" and move on. Use what we call the "EAA method":
-
Engage: Like or react to their comment
-
Acknowledge: Reply and tag them to show appreciation
-
Ask: Follow up with a question to keep the conversation going
This creates real conversations, builds relationships, and signals to LinkedIn that your content is valuable enough to show to more people.
The Reality Check
LinkedIn isn't a get-rich-quick platform. It's what we call a "slow burn." But when you approach it strategically, with genuine value and consistent effort, it becomes one of the most reliable ways to build authority and attract ideal clients.
Remember: there are no shortcuts. The people who succeed on LinkedIn are the ones who show up consistently, provide real value, and build genuine relationships.
