How to Organize Your Content Each Week Using Content Buckets
Jun 21, 2021Last week we went over 4 ways to generate content ideas. This week I want to share a couple of tips, how you can start to organize your content each week (and quarter) using "Content Buckets."
Do you find yourself struggling to organize your content? Do you have a hard time deciding what goes where because everything seems so similar? Is it difficult to keep track of all the different topics and subtopics that go into your blog or video posts? If this sounds like you, then don't worry - I'm going to show you how easy it is. With an organizational system called "content buckets," organizing your content becomes simple and straightforward.
First, I will discuss why using content buckets is useful for anyone creating content online. Second, I'll talk about how to actually set up these buckets in order to get started on creating a more organized content creation structure!
Why use content buckets?
Content buckets allow you to organize your blog or video posts into topics that are more easily identifiable by readers. They also help you keep track of any subtopics, so if something comes up in the post discussion and you want to follow it through with a different post, then this is much easier when using content buckets to stay super organized.
How to set up your content buckets:
First, create a list of topics that you would like to cover on your blog or in videos (think about the brainstorming you did around your ideal audience- the pain points, questions they have, topics they are interested in). It's best if these are broad enough so that they encompass multiple posts but also specific and concise enough for readers to know what the post is about at first glance.
Next, categorize them on a spreadsheet or content bucket list. You can use as many columns in your document to list the topic, keyword(s), and subtopics (if applicable), however, I recommend limiting your content buckets to no more than 5 at a time (to stay focused and streamlined).
Finally, create a title for each post to represent it with these keywords that you have selected from your brainstorming session. This way when people are scrolling through posts on social media, they can quickly identify which ones are the perfect fit for them.
The following is an example of what a content bucket list might look like:
For someone who is in Health and Wellness, here are some examples of content buckets for them: Dieting, Fitness, Self-Care, Nutrition, Mindset.
Some sub-topics underneath these could be:
Content Bucket: Dieting
Underneath that you could put all different kinds of content ideas pertaining to dieting, such as: 3 tips to improve your diet, why yo-you dieting doesn't work, why dieting doesn't work.
I love to use blank index cards and write out my 5 content buckets. Underneath them I start brainstorming ideas for subtopics. It allows me to create endless content ideas.
