Connect. Converse. Create. The Simple 3 Step LinkedIn Routine

If you're a coach, consultant, or service professional, there's a lot you could be doing on LinkedIn. Posting, commenting, messaging, updating your profile, testing the newest feature. It's easy to feel busy without seeing much business growth.

We talk with a lot of people who are still struggling to grow their visibility, build relationships, and turn LinkedIn into real opportunities.

The answer usually isn't doing more. It's doing a few simple things consistently.

Here are the three we'd focus on... connect, converse, and create. Done consistently over time, they produce real growth and traction in your business.

Step 1: Connect With 15 Ideal People a Day

Everything on LinkedIn starts with your network.

You can't grow your visibility, reach more people, or generate more leads and conversations without new connections. It's that simple. And yet so many of the people we talk to aren't actively growing their network at all.

LinkedIn gives you 100 connection requests to send each week. That's a lot of opportunity sitting unused if you're not sending them.

We recommend sending at least 15 new connection requests a day, Monday through Friday. That keeps you under the weekly limit while steadily growing your network.

Be intentional about who you connect with. Focus on:

  • Potential ideal clients in a specific industry, job title, or profession.

  • Business allies and referral partners who serve the same people you do.

Not everyone will accept. On average, somewhere between 25 and 35 percent do. That's why consistency matters more than any single day.

Step 2: Reach Out to 5 People a Day

New connections don't turn into relationships on their own. Conversations do.

Each day, Monday through Friday, reach out to 5 people through LinkedIn messages. How you get to five doesn't matter much. It could be:

  • A welcome message to someone who just accepted your request.

  • A happy birthday message.

  • A congratulations on a work anniversary.

  • A thank you to someone who voted in your poll or subscribed to your newsletter.

This isn't about pitching. It's about starting a genuine conversation.

Growing a business is a contact sport. If you're not reaching out, you don't get new conversations. Without new conversations, you don't get new relationships, new clients, or new referral partners.

You can't wait for people to come to you. Five messages a day adds up to 25 a week and about 100 a month. Not every conversation turns into something, but the more you start, the more opportunities you create.

Think about your next goal, whether it's a new client or a new referral partner. How many conversations will it take to get there? You won't find out until you start them.

Step 3: Create 3 Pieces of Thought Leadership Content a Week

Connecting and messaging aren't enough on their own. Here's why.

When someone gets a message from a person they don't know, they do their own research. They click over to your profile, scroll your activity, and look at what you talk about. Are you a thought leader, or are you just trying to sell them something?

If there's nothing there, there's a good chance they won't reply.

The stronger the content in your activity feed, the better the chance that person writes back and says, "Sure, let's talk."

You don't need to post every day. Three times a week is plenty. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday works. So does Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Most people on LinkedIn rarely post, if they post at all. When you show up three times a week, you already have an edge.

Keep your content educational, informative, and focused on thought leadership. That's what gives people a reason to trust you before the first conversation.

Why It Works

Each step feeds the next.

Connecting brings new people into your network. Those new connections give you people to message. And your content is what makes them want to reply.

Put together, the routine looks like this:

  • 15 new connection requests a day, Monday through Friday.

  • 5 messages a day, Monday through Friday.

  • 3 thought leadership posts a week.

That's it. Simple, repeatable, and easy to act on.

Maybe you're doing one of these. Maybe two. Maybe you were doing all three and got away from it. Consider this your reminder to get back to it and take one intentional step today.

Your Next Step

All three steps lead back to one place... your LinkedIn profile.

It's where new connections decide whether to accept, and where the people you message decide whether to reply. That's why optimizing your profile is one of the best places to start.
