3 Tips to Promote Yourself on Video Even When You're Uncomfortable Doing It.

When it comes to running an online business…. or any business for that matter, it’s important to have a presence online. When you are a coach or professional who works one on one with clients, it becomes even more necessary. One fact that we cannot deny, is that video continues to be King (or Queen) when it comes to content.

Video allows you to show up authentically and as a person, it allows you to better showcase you as the expert and build the know, like and trust with your clients.

People need to know how you can help them. Shooting a video that allows you to share how you can help solve problems for your clients can go a long way.

Now why are you so scared to get on video??

Plain and simple, you are scared to put yourself out there. Fear rears its head and we get stuck in inaction, because we are fearful people will judge us or that think that we will look silly. I have worked with many clients and it’s usually always the same when they first start doing video… they question themselves, they want everything to be “perfect” and they end up shooting the same video a ton of times.

Then after shooting a few videos, they get into the swing of things.

There are a few tips that I believe can greatly help you when it comes to promoting yourself on video.

Tip 1: Know Your Stuff.

-Know what you are talking about. You are a professional and expert and if you are talking about something you don’t know much about, it will be a struggle. So naturally if you don’t know enough about the topic, do some research, so you do know. For example: If I want to talk about the latest trends on social media because that is what you (my audience) wants to learn more about, I will first research and make sure I have a good understanding of what those trends are prior to jumping on and doing a video.

-Know the Benefits You Provide. One of the reasons why it’s hard for coaches to ask for money is because they haven’t thought through all the benefits they offer. If you don’t know your value and what you truly deliver in all aspects, it will make it hard for you to confidently show up and share what you have to offer. Take some time to think through 5-10 benefits people will experience when they hire you. People buy things because they want results. Make sure to connect benefits to what people truly want, ie: better life, more money, better relationships, more joy, etc.- Be confident in the benefits you provide and make sure to deliver. The more you work with clients and deliver results, you will also build your confidence which in turn will help you more comfortably communicate to the world what you do.

Tip 2: Strengthen Your Skills By Doing the Do.

You get better, the more you do it. This applies to going live on LinkedIn or Facebook for example, being a guest on podcasts, even pre-recording videos. They will never be perfect, however you need to hit “publish” to get your message out there.

The world more than ever needs authenticity. We have enough “perfect” pictures and fluffy posts. We need real.

*Shoot a 2-5 minute video on Zoom teaching your audience how to solve a problem they have (as it relates to your industry).

-Introduce yourself.

-Share what you will be talking about.

-Break each tip down.

-Bring it All Together and Recap.

-Share a Call to Action/next steps you want them to take.

Then post it! Boom! You did it!

Tip 3: Find What Works For You.

Do you need to create notes prior to shooting your video, so you can stay on track? Would you benefit by using a teleprompter app? My favorite is “Teleprompter” for Mac. Of course you don’t want to sound like a robot, but if it helps keep you on track and give you a little boost of confidence. Go for it!

The goal is to get to a point where you can shoot a video and it feels like you are talking to an old friend when you look into that camera lens or screen. It takes time and it takes practice. Even the greatest on video, were one amateurs. Find what works for you and stick with it!

Remember, that confidence is a skill and you can work on it. Building your confidence when it comes to promoting your business, is one of the best things you can do. The more confident you are to share how you can help people, the easier it is for people to say yes.

Also I’m going to close out with an extra bonus tip. You have the power to help people, to change lives, to impact others. By you NOT showing up, NOT sharing, you are not sharing your gift.

Go share your gift! Tell people what it is that you do, you go this :-)
